About Matt Upson

Former international centre back Matt Upson represented his country at the 2010 World Cup. At club level he is best known for spells at Arsenal, Birmingham and West Ham. Matt uses the experiences from his career to deliver an impressive speech that will resonate with non-football fans just as much as those with a passion for the sport.
Starting his career at Luton Town, he earned a move to Arsenal in May 1997. He spent 6 years with Arsenal, winning a Premier League medal after making 14 league appearances in their successful 01/02 campaign despite suffering a broken leg in February. Following this, Matt had lengthy spells in the Premier League with Birmingham and West Ham, being made captain of the latter in 2009.
Throughout his career, Matt suffered more than his fair share of serious injuries, which pushed him to the brink of an early retirement. Professionalism and team building are two significant themes in his keynote, drawing on experience from setbacks that are relatable both to athletes and those in a corporate environment.
Since his retirement, Matt has become an established co-commentator and analyst for the BBC, Sky Sports and the Premier League channel. This has helped him to become an accomplished and engaging public speaker who is able to use his personal experiences to give an impressive keynote presentation.
