Steve Finn

England International Cricketer & Broadcaster

About Steve Finn

Steven Finn, widely known throughout the cricket world as “Finny”, is a former England international fast bowler and one of the standout seamers of his generation. Across a distinguished career, he represented England in 126 matches, including 36 Test appearances, and played a major role in three Ashes-winning series. At domestic level, he starred for both Middlesex and Sussex before retiring from professional cricket in 2023 at the age of 34. To this day, he remains the youngest English cricketer ever to reach 50 Test wickets.

Following his retirement from the game, Finn has successfully transitioned into broadcasting, quickly becoming a respected voice across cricket coverage. He is a regular contributor to the legendary Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 Live, while also appearing on BBC TV’s cricket highlights coverage and The Hundred. During the winter months, he features on TNT Sports, alongside additional appearances on Sky Sports throughout the English summer.

Away from television and radio, Finn is also co-host of the hugely popular cricket podcast Zero Ducks Given alongside Toby Tarrant and Daniel Norcross, where the trio deliver an entertaining and insightful take on the biggest stories in the sport.

Few players understand the intensity of Ashes cricket quite like Finn. While his international career produced more than 250 wickets and over 120 England caps, it was his battles against Australia that shaped much of his journey. As a 21-year-old, he helped England secure their famous 2010 Ashes triumph and would later become part of three victorious Ashes squads.

His career, however, was not without adversity. During England’s difficult 2013/14 Ashes tour, Finn suffered a dramatic loss of confidence and form that ultimately saw him sent home from the series. Refusing to let that define him, he rebuilt both his bowling action and belief, returning to help England reclaim the Ashes in 2015.

Drawing from personal diaries and first-hand experiences, Finn’s acclaimed book, The Ashes Files, offers an honest and deeply personal insight into the pressures, triumphs, and setbacks of elite international sport. The book was shortlisted for Cricket Book of the Year at the 2026 Sports Book Awards.
