About Andy Patterson

Diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP) in 2013, Andrew Patterson, affectionately known as “Patto,” faced a life-altering prognosis. By 2020, doctors informed him that the complex form of HSP he had would ultimately confine him to a wheelchair. But Patto refused to let this diagnosis define his future. Instead, he made the courageous decision to travel to the United States for a groundbreaking operation on his spine, an invasive procedure that severed two-thirds of the nerves responsible for his leg movement. His goal was nothing short of extraordinary: to walk unaided once again.
Patto’s journey is one of incredible resilience, strength, and hope. Through painful and often grueling rehabilitation, he pushes every day to regain movement, challenging his body and spirit in ways most of us could never imagine. Patto’s story isn’t just about overcoming physical limitations; it’s about finding strength in adversity, rediscovering purpose, and showing others that resilience is a skill anyone can develop.
As an inspirational speaker, Patto shares his journey with audiences, weaving humour, honesty, and hard-won wisdom into each talk. He demonstrates that, no matter the challenges we face, resilience is within reach for us all. Audiences leave his talks with a renewed sense of purpose, empowered to face their own obstacles with courage and determination.
